i'm going to be as toneless and straightforward as i can be even though this topic makes me extremely frustrated with the mod team: why is cats still allowed to post under their username after repeated instances of racist behavior?

this habit of letting them post and only freezing their threads (but letting those threads remain up) if they get negative responses is the laziest and most intellectually dishonest possible route to take

to give context, someone posted about an argument that was happening in from a wiffu trans discord, a public server where a lot of nonas went. the argument was basically that trans men and lesbians can date and that it's not homophobic/transphobic for either to seek eachother out to date. another nona from this discord server asked for the thread in the discourse thread to be deleted. i disagreed that it should be deleted, since nonas comment on shitty things that happen in discord servers all the time and that it was shitty argument.

i then called that nona an idiot, and for this reason i was asked to step down. because i understand that they don't see this as appropriate behavior, i'm stepping down as asked. i will still go on wiffu maybe as a nona and go on the public wiffu discord, but i will not be posting as mod anymore or moderating your content. if you have any questions or comments about this, please contact me on discord.

the issue was not that it was an intracommunity disagreement, the issue was that conversations from a private server (one that is autonomous and has selective entry to prevent trolls from accessing it) was being dragged out into a public space. not only this, but further comments on the wiffu discord suggest that these comments were being purposefully misconstrued in an attempt to generate wank

trans nonas should be able to discuss intracommunity issues on a private server without worrying about it having dragged out all over wiffu as well as the wiffu server, especially when wiffu in general has a bad track record with handling these discussions

neither the main post of wiffu nor the vent thread is the appropriate place to discuss what went down in the last 1-2 days. letting this take over the comm is just making it a really unpleasant place for everybody, and we want to contain this as much as possible. if you'd like to discuss it, please do so either here in the mod post, or take your conversation off wiffu.

a mod left up a thread discussing this and was clearly moderating it at the time (there were screened comments in the thread) and i'll be bringing it up in the discord because the whole thread should have been deleted.

on a related note, a lot of the discussions i'm seeing here and also on wiffu are conflating two distinct events, which i'd like to clarify here:

1) the deletion of the original comment from the discourse thread. this was deleted at the request of a nona who was from the server, and was done so because it was leaking information from a private server. we would have done the same thing if nonas were discussing information from DMs or from other private platforms. this comment was deleted regardless of content and on the principle that trans nonas should be able to post on a private discord that is, again, moderated, and they should be able to do so without worrying that their discussions are going to be dragged into a public forum.

2) frogmod stepping down. frogmod was asked to step down because she reacted aggressively to a nona who made a reasonable request to have a comment deleted. the comment was linked in the deletion thread clearly requesting that it be deleted on the basis of the fact that it was leaking info from a private server, and again had nothing to do with the content of the comment itself. as furby has said elsewhere in this post: It's inappropriate to use mod status as an argument chip and call concerned nonas and idiot, then make cheeky remarks when said nona becomes upset. This is bad mod conduct and not the first instance. For these reasons she was asked to stand down, it had nothing to do with the content of the discussion and everything to do with how she handled herself.

i hope this clarifies a few things. again, if you wish to discuss this please keep it off wiffu because this situation is upsetting for a lot of people and we don't want it to take over the comm.

hey nonas, this is just to say that i'm stepping down as a mod. i start uni again next week and have been deliberating on whether or not i'll be able to continue modding for some time now, and after the events of this week it's clear that i won't be able to continue investing as much time into wiffu as i have been.

i really do love wiffu and i hope to see it carry on in good hands, so if you're able to help out with modding then please pm one of the current mods on dw or discord. amodterasu has already stepped up which is great, but the comm runs much more smoothly with more mods.

i'm sorry to say i will be stepping down from the mod position as well. i've been considering it for quite some time, but was hesitant because i was still invested in making wiffu a better community for its nonas. but it's become increasingly obvious that i have less and less time to actually spend on that and cannot give this community the modding attention it deserves anymore.

without getting too twee about it, it's been a really weird and tumultuous two years of modding and we all know wiffu has its faults, but i'm still really glad i could contribute in some small way to creating a space on the internet that's less stiflingly heterosexual than the rest of fandom. i genuinely hope u all well. thanks for the lizard pictures.
