Hi nona, several other nonas asked for that post to be deleted because they didn't feel it was appropriate to mock trans people for having differing opinions.

with all due respect, it wasn't "mocking" and idk why its being framed like it is. its disingenuous to frame it like "having differing opinions" when the topic was about straight male chasers. we can't mock chasers now, or the shitty politics saying they're actually good guys?

there are many trans ppl who have criticized this, especially since contrapoints is a big name, has shown her ass several times with racism and antisemitism, and has said transphobic things herself. trans ppl are allowed to disagree with her, especially since she's many cis ppl's first source about trans issues, which is the problem. if some replies got transphobic, then delete, but it sounds really sus to frame this as an opinion thing like its a matter of fictional preferences. deleting it completely is just sending the message trans ppl can't talk about shit that effects them just because they disagree with a big name.

Hi nona, I hear what you're saying and we don't want to stifle discussion or send the message that people can't talk about what effects them. At the same time, I feel like it's kind of a general assumption that anything that gets posted in the discourse thread is there to be mocked at this point? Unless it has a disclaimer of "good post" or something like that. I feel like we're trying to strike a balance between allowing for discussion vs. not letting the discourse thread become a place where marginalized people are made fun of, and it can be tricky to know which side to fall on at any given point. I'm going to talk to the other mods and see if we can't come up with a clearer policy around this issue.

i'm not really following because the discourse threaf afaik has also been where any sj topic was posted, or just there to post disagreement. i was disagreeing with the thread and those takes. not agreeing with the takes and talking about how bad they were (it was excusing str8 dude chasers) is not "mocking trans people". it was criticism. at least if that's what you thought it was can it be moved to the vent thread then. because i don't get how anyone can criticize intra community issues if you think its just bad form at all to even post them. between this and the deleting that one anti post above that had obvious bullshit, i'm not really feeling that great about the current mod judgment and if the team isn't going to be swayed by trolls.

Hi nona, I've talked it over with the mods and we're going to try to do less micromanaging of the discourse thread going forward. If something is posted for clearly bigoted reasons it will definitely be deleted, but by and large we're not going to be deleting posts based on the identity of the person who posted it. That said, there may be times when mods have to step in based on circumstances. It's the kind of thing that has to be handled on a case-by-case basis to some extent.
