Hi nona, I just think we need to be careful about mocking people who are pointing out the disparity in how fandom treats people of color. Even if their rhetoric is over the top, I'm just not sure posting things like that in the discourse thread is a good idea based on the amount of trolling and wank it gets a lot of the time.

i don't agree in this context at all. i've had problems with nonas posting regular leftist takes and just opinions about drawing darker skinned characters in there, but the post in question literally did not have a point about how fandom treats poc. the op of the post is a big name anti who circulate bullshit about how ao3 is a site for pedos. there was literally no point to their post. there was no trolling or wank except for a troll who is known for race trolling about this. maybe if you don't know who op is, or that they were repeating anti talking points under the guise of activism and that there are poc who disagree with them (and if you're white yourself you really don't get to decide that a nonwhite nona can't disagree with that talking point). the post had nothing to do with sj and was just bullshit anti ao3 things, which is stuff we've mocked before. this just makes it sound like you'll believe anyone who race trolls who actually makes it harder to talk about racism in fandom because they do this on purpose.

I may be misremembering but wasn't one of their arguments that AO3 is getting more attention and donations than creators of color get for gofundmes/kickstarters that they do? I'll admit to not knowing anything about the op in particular, although i don't remember anything in that particular comment about pedophilia concern trolling. It's possible I erred on the side of caution in which case I apologize.

"but wasn't one of their arguments that AO3 is getting more attention and donations than creators of color get for gofundmes/kickstarters that they do?"

but that's a really bad argument. saying people suck because they donate to ao3 or a kickstarter for a project more people use than to a stranger online is just a wild take. there's ways to talk about how the reliance on gofundmes for services is a problem with society without making the wild leap that ao3 donations is racist. i don't get how you could think they had a point when the whole post was full of misinformation about how ao3 is bad because of "pedo fics".

op in question is a known wanker and they've been shitty to other poc who don't agree with them. you not knowing that they're known for going on about this topic in a bad faith way, i understand, but then kneejerk deleting because you thought they had a point because of a troll doesn't say anything good about future modding. there's some of us who want to have decent discussions about racism but not from the angle about just shipping or ao3 being the problem.

I understand nona, it wasn't my intention to stifle discussion and I apologize.

nayrt but the post mentioned that ao3 "hosts child porn" multiple times. literally the fire sentence of it also had a throwaway line about sheith shippers not having brains

like idk anything about the op either but it was v clearly anti concern trolling.

I'm sorry nona, I must have missed that in my initial read of the post.
